The population is close to 290 thousand. The Tu people mainly live in the north of Huang Shui River in the eastern part of Qinghai Province, on both sides of the Yellow River and its adjacent areas. Most of them live in the Huzhu Tu Autonomous County of Qinghai Province and the surrounding counties of Minhe, Datong and Tongren, and a few people live in the Tianzhu Tibetan Autonomous County in Gansu Province. The Tu people use the Tu language which belongs to the Mongolian languages of the Altaic language family. There are two dialects, Huzhu and Minhe, and Chinese is generally used. The Tu people were engaged in animal husbandry in the early days, and now they are mainly engaged in agricultural production and also in animal husbandry. They believe in Tibetan Buddhism generally. The important festivals of the Tu people include the "Guanjinghui", "Leitaihui", the "Danma Drama Event", the "Youth Event" and the "Nadun" (harvest celebration). Among them, "Leitaihui", the "Danma Drama Event" and "Nadun" are the most characteristic. At that time, in addition to traditional cultural, sports and recreational activities, such as horse racing, wrestling, martial arts and singing "flowers", a material exchange event is held. In addition, like the Han people, they also celebrate the "Spring Festival" and "Dragon Boat Festival".
