Rua dos Pescadores
Rua dos Pescadores is located near Reservatório in the southeast of the Parish of Nossa Senhora de Fátima, with a total length of about 690 metres. It is a road which stretches straight towards the southeast with a bidirectional carriageway. The earliest record of it can be found in “Cadastro das Vias Públicas de Macau” (Cadastre of Public Roads of Macao) published in 1905. Its name is relevant to fishermen and the fishing industry because, according to an old map of Macao in 1889, it was located in a coastal area. “Pescadores” in Portuguese means “fishermen”.
Beside the buildings at no. 15 and no. 17 of the street, there is a temple that sees endless flows of worshippers – the Tin Hau Temple. According to records, the temple was first built in 1865 (4th year of the reign of Tongzhi Emperor) and was also known as the “Tin Hau Temple of Má Káu Séak” because of a pile of Má Káu Séak (rocks) on the hill where it is located. Since its inception in 1954, the Macau Grand Prix has been using the Guia Circuit as its racetrack. The famous “Fisherman’s Bend” under the Melco Hairpin of the Guia Circuit is so named because it is located in Rua dos Pescadores.
