Introduction

 The population is about 1 billion and 220.845 million. The Han people are mainly distributed in the Songliao Plain of China and the areas with developed agriculture of the middle and lower reaches of big rivers, such as the Yellow River, the Yangtze River and the Pearl River, and the rest reside throughout the country. Among the large families of the Chinese ethnics, the Han population is the largest with the widest distribution. The Han ethnic group has its own language and characters. The Han language is commonly known as Chinese. It belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language family and is one of the oldest and richest languages in the world. The Han used to be a traditional agricultural ethnic group and most of the Han people were mainly engaged in agricultural production. Moreover, the household subsidiary production, handicraft, fishery and animal husbandry production also accounted for a certain proportion. The Han ethnic group has a long history and developed culture. It has attained brilliant achievements in politics, military, philosophy, literature, history, art, natural science and so on. Since ancient times, the Han people have adopted an inclusive attitude towards various religious beliefs. Confucianism and Taoism originated from the Mainland and have had a profound influence on the Han people's thoughts and culture. Later, Buddhism, Catholicism, Christianity and Islam were introduced into China and some people began to believe in these religions. There are many festivals of the Han ethnic group, mainly the "Spring Festival", "Ching Ming Festival", "Dragon Boat Festival", "Lantern Festival", "Mid-Autumn Festival", etc. The "Spring Festival", also known as the "Chinese New Year", is the most important festival of the Han people every year since thousands of years ago. During the Chinese New Year, the Han people have to stay up at night on New Year’s Eve and give New Year greetings on the first day of the lunar year.
