The national flag is a symbol of national sovereignty and national dignity. It embodies the history, traditions and the national spirit of a country and should be held in reverence by its people and respected by the international community. The national flag of the People’s Republic of China is a “Five-Star Red Flag”. Its red colour symbolises revolution. The 5 five-pointed stars and their inter-relationship represent the great unity of the revolutionary people under the leadership of the Communist Party. The five-pointed stars are yellow to stand out brightly against the red background since it is brighter and looks more beautiful than white colour. One of the pointed tips of each of the 4 smaller stars is oriented towards the centre point of the larger star in symbolic of unity built around a centre. The stars are neatly packed together to make them aesthetically pleasing.
