Rua de Sanches de Miranda
Rua de Sanches de Miranda lies in the central district of the Macao Peninsula, about 125 metres long and approximately 8 metres wide, and extends between the south and the north. The road intersects at the crossroads with Rua de Jorge Álvares, Estrada do Cemitério and Rua de Tomás Vieira in the north, and joins Estrada do Repouso and Rua dos Artilheiros in the south. Calçada da Igreja de S. Lázaro runs through its middle section.
Rua de Sanches de Miranda is an old road named after Anibal Augusto Sanches de Miranda, the 104th Governor of Macao. The earliest record of the road dates back to 1925 in “Cadastro das Vias Públicas de Macau” (Cadastre of Public Roads of Macao).
The three-storey Portuguese-style building at no. 5 Rua de Sanches de Miranda is the original site of the Macao Sam Yuk Middle School which was relocated in 1993 to Taipa. This building and the building at no. 7 Rua de Sanches de Miranda both belong to the Social Welfare Bureau under the Secretariat for Social Affairs and Culture.
The building at no. 3 of the road is home to the “10 Fantasia - A Creative Industries Incubator”, a place for local artists to create and exhibit artworks. In September 2008, the “10 Fantasia - A Creative Industries Incubator” was inaugurated, being run by the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District.
In addition to the “10 Fantasia - A Creative Industries Incubator”, there is another non-profit art organisation known as the “Macao Lush Valley Creative Space”, founded in 2012 at no. 18 Rua de Sanches de Miranda. The aim is to promote arts and culture, and make arts part of the public’s daily life.
