Rua de Sacadura Cabral
Rua de Sacadura Cabral, commonly known as Rua de Sacadura among locals, lies between the Parish of São Lázaro and the Parish of Santo António, which begins in Avenida de Sidónio Pais and ends opposite Rua de Martinho Montenegro. About 445 metres long and approximately 6 metres wide, it extends northwest and southeast, and its earliest record is found in “Cadastro das Vias Públicas de Macau” (Cadastre of Public Roads of Macao) published in 1905. The road was named after Sacadura Cabral, a Portuguese pilot who went missing in 1924 on a flight to Rio de Janeiro and whose whereabouts remain a mystery today.
No. 31 Rua de Sacadura Cabral is the site of the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau. In the 1960s, tens of thousands of overseas Chinese flooded into Macao due to a surge of Sinophobia in Southeast Asia. In order to solve their problems in residence and settlement, many famous leaders of overseas Chinese committed themselves to the establishment of associations or organisations. It is under this background that the Association of Returned Overseas Chinese Macau was founded. It has grown since its inception into one of the most important associations committed to community service, overseas Chinese unity, and political participation.
Rua de Sacadura Cabral intersects with many other roads, leading to scenic spots such as the Tap Seac Square and the Lun Hing Art Community Macao. This area is hailed as a gastronomic paradise, offering a diverse array of delicacies.
