Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo
Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo is located in the northwest of the Parish of Sé, about 185 metres long and approximately 14 metres wide. Running northeast-southwest, it starts between no. 47 and no. 83 of Avenida Doutor Mário Soares and ends in Avenida da Praia Grande, next to Travessa da Praia Grande.
Pedro José Lobo was a prominent politician, philanthropist and artist in Macao. During the Second World War, he contributed significantly to address the food problem in Macao. On 18 September 1956, the Portuguese administration of Macao decided to name a newly constructed road after Pedro José Lobo in memory of him. On 18 October, the decision was published in the official bulletin.
The Macau Square on the road is a large shopping mall and a commercial centre. It was the original site of the Nam Van Cinema opened in 1964, the largest of its kind in Macao at the time. The Luso International Banking Building, located opposite the Macau Square, features a simple and modern shape. It is the first edifice in Macao whose external walls are made of reflective, heat-insulated and floor-to-ceiling glass.
Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo is home to large shopping malls, banks, food restaurants, and money changers. This area is one of Macao’s most famous bustling tourist destinations.
