Travessa do Roquete
Travessa do Roquete starts at Senado Square and ends at Rua da Sé. The Procession of Jesus Christ passes through this lane, as well as the Procession of Our Lady of Fatima and other large-scale religious processions. The name "Travessa do Roquete" was first recorded in the Macau Government Gazette which was published in 1888 by the Portuguese administration, and derived from the name of the wealthy Portuguese businessman Francisco Xavier Roquete, who donated his inheritance to the Macao Holy House of Mercy.
The changes along Travessa do Roquete map closely to the changes at the Holy House of Mercy, located on one end of the lane, as well as the Central Post Office building at the edge of the lane.
This stele was unearthed during a road repavement project at Travessa do Roquete by the Municipal Council of Macau on 26th March, 1998. The site was an affiliated orphanage of the Holy House of Mercy founded by Bishop D. Belchior Carneiro in 1569.
