In 1995, the United Nations proclaimed 16 September the “International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer” to commemorate the signing of the “Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer” on 16 September 1987. The protocol requests all signing nations to take action to commemorate this special day in line with the objectives of the protocol and its amendments.
