Reasons for Issuing AlertThe Hong Kong Centre for Food Safety (CFS) announced that the CFS has received a notification from the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) of the European Commission that the locust bean gum used in  two kinds of beverages imported from Italy were found with a pesticide, ethylene oxide, which is not authorised by the EU. Furthermore, the CFS, upon following up on a stabiliser imported from France with the possible presence of ethylene oxide announced earlier on, was notified that the affected stabiliser has been used in a kind of Hong Kong produced prepackaged ice cream with various flavours. Since ethylene oxide is not authorised by the EU, the above-mentioned affected products are now being recalled.
