Enforcement of General Regulations Governing Public Places

General Regulations Governing Public Places is closely related to the public. It regulates the obligations of any person in public areas, which include: prohibiting behaviours against the requirements of cleanliness, personal hygiene and public health, forbidding actions that may cause or increase the danger in normal commuting of vehicles or pedestrians, protecting natural environment and the balance of a variety of habitats, as well as stopping trespass into restricted zones.

In addition to setting a system to fine or penalise offenders, new forms of punishment are also introduced by the General Regulations Governing Public Places. Offenders may choose to participate in social service schemes instead of paying fine, but this form of punishment is only applicable to Macao SAR residents. To continue improving hygienic condition of public places, the IAM will enforce the General Regulations Governing Public Places and also enhances publicity and education to raise public awareness of keeping the community clean, and reminds the public their obligation to observe the related regulations.
