The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) will commence the construction works for renovation of the footbridge on east side of Praça das Portas do Cerco and optimisation of the surrounding streets from May 10 to create a more comfortable pedestrian environment and improve the scenery in that area. The public are reminded that the mentioned footbridge and the leisure areas at the foot of the footbridge will be temporarily closed during the construction period.

The bridge surface of the footbridge connecting the east side of Praça das Portas do Cerco has become old and the overall appearance has deteriorated. The pavements in the surrounding streets have also become aged and lack green elements. IAM will commence the renovation of the footbridge and optimisation of the surrounding streets, including reorganisation of the leisure area between the footbridge on the east side of Praça das Portas do Cerco and Rua dos Hortelãos, repavement of a section of pavement from Rua da Serenidade and Rua da Paz to Rua dos Hortelãos and renovation of the footbridge on the east side of Praça das Portas do Cerco, so as to add green areas, optimise the square and the barrier-free facilities, improve and beautify the environment of the community. IAM will coordinate with the franchised companies to carry out laying of pipes and cables during the construction period to avoid repeat excavation in the future.

The optimisation works of the footbridge and pavements will commence at the same time on May 10, and the construction period is about 120 days. The construction works involving the pavements will be carried out in phases to minimise the impact on the public. As it is needed to install a temporary office and store materials on site to facilitate the works, the leisure area between the footbridge on the east side of Praça das Portas do Cerco and Rua dos Hortelãos will be temporarily closed during the construction period. However, the pavements on both sides of the leisure area will remain accessible. Signs will be installed near the access points of the footbridge to guide pedestrians to the nearest zebra crossings. IAM reminds the public to pay attention to the on-site conditions and exercise caution, and apologises for the inconvenience caused.
