The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has built the Oscar Trail over 1,000 metres long in the south-western part of the Coloane Island for residents to have more space close to the nature to enjoy leisure and recreational activities.
With both its exit and entrance located close to the Oscar Farm in Estrada de Cheoc Van, the Oscar Trail is a loop trail about 1,150 metres long. The scenery along the trail is picturesque, and there are indigenous tree species on both sides: Liquidambar formosana (Sweet Gum), Sapium discolor (Mountain Tallow Tree), Schima superba (Schima), etc. Walking up the steps, visitors arrive at the platform on the mountain top where they can take in the scenery of the area near Estrada da Aldeia and the Cheoc Van Beach in Coloane. Hiking along the trail, visitors have chances to spot common local birds in the undergrowth such as Garrulax canorus (Chinese Hwamei), Pycnonotus sinensis (Light-vented Bulbul) and Zosterops japonica (Japanese White-eye).
The Oscar Trail is now open to the public. Residents are welcome to visit and enjoy the nature with their family and friends.
