The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) is renovating Escadaria da Praia de Cheoc Van and the staircase near Clube de Nadadores de Inverno de Macau, both leading to Cheoc Van Beach in Coloane, to optimise the walkway environment from Estrada de Cheoc Van to Cheoc Van Beach. During this period, the two staircases will be temporarily closed in phases..

There are several passages from Estrada de Cheoc Van to Cheoc Van Beach. Among them, Escadaria da Praia de Cheoc Van and the staircase near Clube de Nadadores de Inverno de Macau have been used for many years, resulting in ageing and damages that affect the safety of pedestrians. Besides, the lighting facilities there are insufficient. IAM is carrying out the works in phases to refurbish and refinish the above-mentioned staircases, with handrails added to increase aesthetics and safety, and lighting facilities optimised along the staircases. Water and power companies have been coordinated to carry out pipeline works at the same time to avoid repetitive diggings.

The works are carried out in two phases, each with a construction period of about 60 days. Escadaria da Praia de Cheoc Van is closed in the first phase of the works. After its refurbishment is completed and access is restored, the staircase near Clube de Nadadores de Inverno de Macau will be closed immediately for the works to be proceeded. During the first phase of the works, if members of the public take the bus to Cheoc Van Swimming Pool, it is recommended to get off at the bus stop “Estrada de Cheoc Van-1” or “Estrada de Cheoc Van-2” and take the staircase near Clube de Nadadores de Inverno de Macau. IAM apologises for the inconvenience caused and reminds the public to pay attention to the nearby road conditions and safety.
